My Writer's Profile
Kia Ora, my name is Stevie.
I am 10 years old and I live in a small town of Hokitika and I go to Hokitika Primary School. I love to write stories about the places I go like Lake Paringa and Kaikoura. I love writing fictional stories because there is a lot of excitement, adventure and you can write anything. I love reading non-fiction stories because they are based on real-life things, I love adventures in true stories because I can picture the adventure in my mind. Sometimes I can read hours on end and finish a huge book in a few days. Writer's workshop is all about jots, long writes and stream-of-consciousness.
Stream-of-consciousness is all about writing down whatever is in your head and if you don’t know what to write you can write that down. Jots are meant to help you remember a story idea even if it is silly. Long writes are unfinished pieces of work that later on we work on and publish. Writers workshop is also about helping us get ready for high school because when we leave we will have to do things like writing essays and reports and a lot of things that publishing these stories will help us accomplish doing. While writing this story I learned that you can’t make your writing perfect on the first try. You have to keep editing and find ways to make the story better because no matter what there are always ways to make it perfect for you.

Creature Island
One day I was riding my horse through the forest with my owl sleeping happily in my bag. All of a sudden my horse came to a stop. It had gotten dark and my owl woke up because of the sudden jolt. Gwenneth my owl flew out of my bag and into the dark forest. Instantly she flew back into my bag. Violent shivers vibrated my bag. “Why was she so scared?” I thought for a while.
I hopped off my horse Elliot and put my bag on his back. I walked forward to see what was so scary when I saw a silhouetted figure standing in front of me. I screamed and ran to Elliot grabbed my bag and jumped up onto him. Gwenneth flew out of my bag just as Elliot started into a trot, then a gallop. Gwenneth caught up and flew by my side until we got back to my cabin. I jumped off Elliot and led him to his stable where he would be safe from the strange figure.
I ran inside and Gwenneth swooped through the door and onto her perch. Then all of a sudden there was a bang at the door. I stood back, I was worried about what was outside. BANG! The door flung open, the figure was extraordinary with it's pointy golden horns, long thorny tail, ocean blue skin and emerald green eyes. It was a monster. It was almost hypnotizing and I forgot how scared I was. I was slowly walking backwards when I hit the wall. The creature started talking to me it said “roar,” sounding really funny. I tried to hold my laughter in although it was really difficult. Then he said. “Did I scare you?” “Not really” I replied “you were funny.” I said with a smirk on my face. He looked disappointed then said. “Since I didn't scare you can we be friends?” I was about to reply when an earth shaking rumble shook the ground. I ran outside, a humongous glowing grey dragon emerged from the sea.
Monsters came from nowhere and seemed to be searching for something. They looked under rocks, by the tree roots and around the sea shore. Hours seemed to pass and yet it had only been minutes, still the monsters were looking. “What are they looking for, are they looking for something? I also wanna know, WHY AT MIDNIGHT?” I yelled curiously.
“Don't yell you’ll make her find us, and, if you really wanna know, yes they’re looking for something, they are looking for the Midnight Flower. I don't think I’ll have to tell you why at midnight. Oh yeah and before you ask they have to look or the dragon known as Meteora will take them somewhere and no I don’t know where”. He said while constantly looking over his shoulder. There was a spine shivering roar and the monster ran into my house and hid behind multiple things trying to find out what one would hide him best. Finally he found my room and as he ran in I felt and icey sharp breath hit the back of my neck.
I froze and then slowly turned around, I saw what it was that had made the monster hide, Meteora. Her peeping golden eyes staring right into mine. She made me freeze. She flew high in the sky but I was still frozen in place. Hours passed I could see it was morning and I could hear the monster snoring. The sun hit my face. I could finally move, I could finally run around yet I was still stiff until the monster ran out of my room and tapped my shoulder to see if I was awake or not. Then he finally asked what I knew was coming. “Can I come here every night. Last night I wasn’t as scared as I usually am ” He stared at me with a hopeful look on his face. I gave a sigh and he took it as a yes. He ran out looking pleased and with me ending up snoring while standing.
The next night the monster returned. He stood outside and I told him to wait as I grabbed my bag. “Where are we going?” He asked curiously. I replied, sounding very annoyed, “For a walk.” He looked even more curious than before. I walked out, Gwenneth and the monster both followed. When we got close to the stables Gwenneth took the lead and flew to Elliot. I ran to Elliot as well, the monster was still following silently. I led Elliot out of his stable and jumped up onto his back. We were slowly trotting down a long bumpy cobblestone path. The monster was running faster than Elliot and that was the monsters slowest running speed. We got to the end of the path and we found a mysterious cave.
Hours passed, it was 10 minutes until midnight. I jumped off Elliot and grabbed my torch. I started to walk into the cave, Gwenneth swooped in and safely led me through the twists and turns of the mysterious cave. The monster was still outside until he saw Gwenneth and I were gone so he ran into the cave and somehow the monster knew exactly what way to go even though there were multiple paths. The monster reached the end of the cave multiple times before I did and somehow he zoomed right passed me without seeing me.
By the time I finally got to the end of the cave he was waiting for us. It was now midnight. A galactic glimmer filled the cave. Blues, pinks, purples and bit of red. There was a giant flower at the end of the cave. I knew exactly what flower it was, the Midnight flower. The monster grabbed the flower and said “come on we need to get this flower underwater before one’o’clock.” I looked confused then asked “why do we need to put it underwater?” He looked as annoyed as I had been at the house then he said “if Meteora burns it, the fumes of this flower will make her invincible. Now let's go!” It took us about half an hour to get out of the cave and when we did the monster was almost gone. I quickly jumped up onto Elliot and Gwenneth soared out of the cave and onto my shoulder to catch a ride. We raced as fast as we could, trying to catch up to the monster.
There was an earth rumbling roar, Meteora was on our trail. We had to act quickly or who knows what could happen. We finally got to the river and as I jumped off Elliot I saw the monster putting the flower on the water trying to shove it under. I ran up to him. “Why won’t it go under?” I asked curiously he didn’t take his eyes off the flower. Suddenly he stopped trying to push the flower. He looked amazed and then I saw what he saw. The flower was just sitting on the water but where it sat a galactic oil covered the area where the flower was. Meteora let out a roar and we got worried. Meteora had found us, she was diving at us. I didn't know what to do, I was panicking, then I had an idea.
I didn't know if it was going to work but it was worth a try. I ran. I'm in the air I'm scared I don't know what's happening, my feet touch something, something soft. Now I feel water, it worked my plan worked the flower is now submerged underneath the water. I’m under the water to. Meteora landed, the monster was still up there I have to get up there and help. The monster jumped in.
Meteora came up to the water, she touched it wearily. She let out a cry of agony and I just found out why. She got burnt when she touched the water, there was a sizzle then she cried. She’s a dragon, she can’t touch water. Meteora soared into the sky then she was out of sight. I looked down at the flower, still sinking a dust cloud surrounded the flower then disappeared. I swam up to the sand and took a deep breath. I had a moment of realisation. Both of us went in, me and the monster. But where was he? I dived back under in search of him. I couldn’t see anything. I came back up to the surface and slowly walked away when I heard a bubbly noise from behind me.
I turned around to see the monster staring at me with a smirk on his face. “You were worried about me now we’re friends, ha ha.” he said in a sing song voice. “How do you know I was worried, I could’ve just be looking for something?” I said sounding sarcastic. “You had a worried look on your face. Now we’re friends!” I sighed and in the blink of an eye he disappeared. I took one last glance at the flower, it was almost morning yet it was still glowing brighter every minute. Gwenneth was asleep, Elliot couldn’t run, I’ve had enough adventure for a while. “It's time to go home.” I said to Elliot sleepily.
